A century of support for Nova Scotia’s producers.

The Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board supports the development of sustainable agriculture and agri-rural business in Nova Scotia through responsible lending. Whether it’s flexible payment options for farmers just starting out, smaller loans for smaller projects, financing innovative ideas, or locking in rates long-term to provide producers with more stability, our loans help Nova Scotian farmers grow, improve, and innovate.

We’ve been supporting our province’s farmers for over 100 years. Agriculture financing is all we do, and that single focus gives us an exceptionally deep understanding of our producers’ realities. Given this, the products we offer accurately reflect the needs and desires of farmers and food producers across the province.

The decisions about what we offer and who we finance are made right here in Nova Scotia. And when you work with us, your loan repayments go right back into financing other producers within the province’s agriculture industry. Together with our clients, we’re building on the success of agriculture in Nova Scotia—and ensuring a future that’s greener than ever.

    Recent Amendments to Our Regulations

The Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board (NSFLB) has a mandate to support the breadth of Nova Scotia’s agricultural industry through the provision of capital financing. We operate as a provincial Crown corporation under the Agriculture and Rural Credit Act. With recently approved amendments made to our Regulations made under the Act, the Board can modernize the regulatory framework, enhance administrative efficiency, and better reflect the evolving needs of the agriculture and agri-food sector. A summary of the regulatory changes is available here.

What our customers say about us.

“Locking in interest gave me some certainty in my planning and that’s the security I needed. It was easier to make a sustainable business plan knowing up front what your costs would be throughout the term. Their loan was the best fit for what we were looking to do.”

    Vincent Kouwenberg, Wallace Bay, NS

“The Farm Loan Board understands my business and gives me what I need to meet my demand; they understand my message, what I’m trying to say and my story.”

    Luke DenHaan, Annapolis Valley, NS

“I like the Farm Loan Board because they understand farming and they’re very flexible,”

    Lisa Jenereaux, Melvern Square, NS

The Farm Loan Board really helped us navigate some tough times getting into the industry.”

    Jolene Vermeulen, Urbania, NS
