Empowering African Nova Scotian Youth Through Agriculture
The Black Youth Planting Their Future program provides summer employment for African Nova Scotian students in grades 11, 12 and post-secondary education. Managed by the Department of Agriculture, this program supports African Nova Scotian youth in the Colchester region by offering meaningful work experience, skill development, and opportunities for community engagement.
Program Goals
- Increase Employability Skills: Equip youth with practical skills for future careers in agriculture and public service.
- Empower and Support Youth: Help students explore career options and post-secondary pathways.
- Create Opportunities to Explore Agriculture: Provide exposure to agriculture-related employment opportunities, as well as local food production through farm tours and support of community food initiatives.
The Black Youth Planting Their Future program is cultivating future leaders in agriculture and public service while honouring African Nova Scotian heritage.
